Support Request: SiteKiosk Online and Proxy Auth

Description

Hello,

How does SiteKiosk Online work with proxy authentication?
In SK Classis, I know it's a bit tricky (proxy.pac in skcfg, capture and type access in window, etc.).

Can we expect SiteKiosk Online to optimize the proxy functions?

Thanks

Hello,

There are no proxy settings in SiteKiosk Online. The SiteKiosk Online client simply uses the network connection provided by the operating system (and network environment).

The current SiteKiosk Online client just requires an outgoing network connection from the client system via TCP port 443 to communicate with the server (e.g. https://sitekiosk.online).
The connection is initiated by the client and https and wss (secure websocket) are used for encryption.

Okay, but how SiteKiosk Online Client works with a proxy with authentification ?

Today, in SiteKiosk Classic we configure an proxy.pac in Windows but a little authentification window appear when we try to navigate on a URL.
In Windows this authentification is transparent for the user ; it's configure in the proxy.pac.

Thanks

Hello,

To consider migrating one of our customers from SK Classic to SK online we need to know if proxy authentication is better handled by SK online.

Thank you,

Hello,

Here is a dev blog article from 2017 on how to use a corresponding Chromium CEF parameter (https://peter.sh/experiments/chromium-command-line-switches/#proxy-pac-url) in SiteKiosk Classic:
https://devblog.provisio.com/post/2017/08/24/How-to-Use-a-Proxy-Auto-Config-File-with-SiteKiosk-Windows.aspx

But the Windows system setting that you can use for SiteKiosk Online also seems to work with SK Classic.

SiteKiosk Online:
As written, there is no setting for this in SiteKiosk Online. This means that you have to configure the proxy / network in such a way that the client computer (without additional settings in the software used) can establish a connection via proxy.

This can be a transparent proxy (as is common nowadays) or a central setting on the operating system, like here described for Windows 10 (where you also can add pac files):
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/use-a-proxy-server-in-windows-03096c53-0554-4ffe-b6ab-8b1deee8dae1

Note: The proxy settings under Windows (Settings>Network & Internet>Proxy) appear to be user-dependent, so you will also need to store the information about the proxy settings / PAC file in the SiteKiosk user account for the default auto start mode: https://www.sitekiosk.com/eu/web/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=26577

Or you can use a domain/group policy to ensure that the setting is set system-wide.
