FAQ: Gmail / Google Mail login in SiteKiosk

Description

Generally you need to use the Chrome Browser skin to be able to login to Gmail as the IE Webbrowser Control is not supported.
But apparently Google has also excluded all Chromium CEF browsers from Gmail login.

If you get the message “Couldn't sign you in…This browser or app may not be secure…Try using a different browser.” when you try to login to Gmail in SiteKiosk with Chrome Browser skin (as is currently the case - status Dec 2019) the current workaround with SiteKiosk is to send a non-default user agent.

SiteKiosk 9.8 and higher:
For configurations created with SiteKiosk 9.8.5463 and higher, open the configuration with an editor like Notepad. Look for the line

"add": "Edg/$(ChromiumVersion)"

and change it to

"add": "SiteKiosk $(VersionString)"

SiteKiosk 9.x versions before 9.8:
Open the configuration go to Start Page & Browser -> Chrome Browser -> Customize -> Settings -> Add SiteKiosk to user agent header and tick it.

It also works (as of August 2021) when using the User Agent of the Firefox or Safari browsers.
Firefox example

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:90.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/90.0

Safari example:

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_6) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/13.1.2 Safari/605.1.15

Here's the information on how to add it to SiteKiosk:

If you want to check the user agent that is used in the browser you can use this page (press "Try it" button to check):
https://www.w3schools.com/jsref/tryit.asp?filename=tryjsref_nav_useragent

Note that having the browser pretend to be a diiferent browser engine may result in problems related to the display of a web page or how it works.
