Support Request: Password requirements changed.

Description

Our password requirements have just changed to requiring a minimum length of 15 characters with capital, lowercase, number, and special character. Today is the first time I've tried making a site kiosk client since the change. When I download the .exe and ran it, I get an error message that says Unable to create SiteKiosk user. The password does not meet the policy requirements. Run the installer on the command line.

So I have a couple of questions.

1. How do I get this to work? The preconfigured installer does not run on the command line with or without the optional SITEKIOSKUSERPASSWORD=mypassword

2. Can you update site kiosk to make it a fifteen character password with capitals, lowercase, numbers, and special characters? Considering the direction computer security is going now days I suspect you'll have to eventually do this anyways.

Thanks :)

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, you will need to use the General Installer for those commands. Using the General Installer only means that you will need to login manually to connect the client to your account. Here is the example command of specifying a unique password for the SiteKiosk user during install:

"SiteKioskOnline.exe" SITEKIOSKUSERPASSWORD=12MYStrongPassword!

If the SiteKiosk user is already installed, currently logged off and with admin rights, you can call this command (depends on Install Path):

 "C:\Program Files\SiteKiosk Online\SiteKiosk.SystemPatcher.exe" changepassword -u SiteKiosk -n NewPassword -p OldPassword

You can find more examples like this in the last entry at this link: https://www.sitekiosk.com/web/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=26345

Best regards,
Andre.

Thanks Andre I'll try this. My bosses wanted me to ask you if you have any intention on increasing the Master Password requirements in SiteKiosk in the near future?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but doing sitekioskonline.exe SITEKIOSK... etc didn't work. I still get the cannot create Sitekiosk user error message. I check users and it doesn't exist.

Hello,

Please note that this is a public forum, and responses here are available to the general public. Master Passwords can be regenerated at your command in Team>>Security. If there are requirements concern for your organization, you can share them with us by email - support-america(at)sitekiosk.com .

The error message means that SiteKiosk Online installer is not allowed to create the local SiteKiosk user. Temporarily, you can get around that with these commands:

"SiteKioskOnline.exe" CREATESITEKIOSKUSER=false

"SiteKiosk.SystemPatcher.exe" createuser -applydefaultsettings

Otherwise, creating your own restricted user will be needed. You can set these for Auto Start in the Quick Menu>>Auto Start Settings>>"Auto start with shell replacement for all users">>Log on automatically at system startup>>Settings icon. Or adjust your domain settings to allow a local standard user to be created during install.

Best regards,
Andre.
